Concert harpist Richard Allen was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland where he studied piano and traditional Irish harp. ‘An artist in the true sense of the word’, he has studied with Gabriella Dall’Olio Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance in London, going on to study in Switzerland with Letizia Belmondo. He is now included among the roster of six soloists on the International Artist Diploma programme at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He performs regularly across Europe as a soloist having won a number of prizes including the North London Camac Competition and the Félix Godefroid International Harp Competition in Belgium. Personal highlights include solo performances at the Cheltenham Music Festival, the St Martin-in-the-Field’s recital series, and the Royal Festival Hall in London. Upcoming performances include an evening recital of French music, a collaboration with the Karski Quartet and a performance of Glière’s Harp Concerto Op.74 with the BBC Philharmonic.
