Ellen Cranitch started her professional life playing flute with all the major orchestras in Ireland, chamber groups, bands, and theatre ensembles. Her interest in jazz and improvised music led her to the dark side, and she began writing scores for theatre and dance productions, radio and TV. Her version of James Joyce’s THE DEAD for Performance Corporation won a New York Radio Festivals award in 2017. In 2003 she began working as a radio presenter and producer for RTE Radio 1 and Lyricfm, making music and arts programmes, and documentary. She currently presents the eclectic weekend late-night programme, Vespertine. She is Artistic Director of the Galway Jazz Festival.
